Stormworks Build and Rescue update 1.8 is rolling out on PC (Steam). According to the official Stormworks patch notes, the latest update introduces a new oil spills system, oil disaster missions, and updates to oil drilling.
Previously, a big Stormworks Build and Rescue update added a long list of quality-of-life improvements and fixes. Unfortunately, since the release, players are facing several issues. Stormworks Build and Rescue patch 1.8 will fix a few of these issues.

Stormworks Patch 1.8 Notes – June 23, 2023
Ocean Oil Spills:
- The new oil spills system leaves a thick layer of oil on the ocean surface.
- Oil leaks from vehicles can pollute the environment.
- The ocean must be pumped and filtered using new oil-water separators for cleanup.
- Oil slicks spread with ocean currents and diffuse over time.
Oil Disaster Missions:
- New missions in career mode involve oil disasters.
- Damaged oil pipelines or ships can leak oil into the ocean, creating cleanup tasks.
- The oil pollution system functions similarly to the forest fire system.
- Oil Drilling Updates:
- A new pivot-type pipe connector has been added for easier handling of pipes.
- Various fixes and improvements have been made to the oil drilling system.
Lua Support:
- Additional Lua functionality has been added for add-on creators to interact with the new oil system.
- Discount and Future Updates:
- Stormworks & DLCs are discounted to celebrate the update’s launch.
- The developers mention more exciting updates in progress and encourage feedback.
Patch Notes:
- Ocean oil spills feature added, along with a preset oil rig example.
- Introducing the centrifugal separator and a new small oil rod end connector.
- Oil strike effect and default missions for oil spills included.
- Reduced playable area size and removed length limit on drill rod segments.
- Improved anti-cheat support and fixed multiplayer sync for pumpjacks.
- Various modifications and additions to audio, graphics, and data files.
- Addon Lua now supports onOilSpill callback and getOilSpill/setOilSpill functions.
