According to the official Civilization 7 patch notes, the latest Civilization VII update 1.2.4 delivers a sweeping Wonder rebalance, adjusting costs, effects, unlocks, and placement rules across all Ages. Nerfs to top-tier Wonders and buffs to underused ones aim for fairer choices. Additionally, the Civilization 7 patch 1.000.013 also made major improvements to AI, Age Transitions, Advisors, Diplomacy, and Military mechanics.

1.2.4 Patch Summary

  • Major Wonder balance changes across all Ages.

  • Unlock locations adjusted for better pacing and less overlap.

  • Expanded placement rules (e.g., Pyramids and Machu Pikchu more flexible).

Wonder Balance Updates

General Changes

  • Wonders rebalanced across Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern Ages.

  • Unlocks shifted to avoid overlap and improve timing (e.g., Colossus, Erdene Zuu).

  • Placement restrictions expanded (e.g., Pyramids no longer desert-only, Machu Pikchu allows Grassland Mountains).

  • Nerfs applied to dominant Wonders (Gate of All Nations, House of Wisdom).

  • Terrain-enhancing Wonders like Petra fixed to retain bonuses after building on enhanced tiles.


Antiquity Age Wonders

  • Colossus – Cost reduced (450 → 375), moved to Currency Tech.

  • Dur-Sharrukin – Science bonus on Fortifications; Combat bonus increased (+3 → +5).

  • Emile Bell – Base Influence yield added, Ginseng Agreement expanded to all Cities, cost increased.

  • Gate of All Nations – Nerfed: War Support reduced (2 → 1).

  • Great Stele – Production added, effect applies to all Wonders, scaling clarified.

  • Ha’amonga ‘a Maui – No biome restrictions.

  • Mausoleum at Halicarnassus – Production yield added, cost increased.

  • Mundo Perdido – Science and Happiness effects expanded to Tropical tiles, cost increased.

  • Oracle – Culture bonus doubled (10 → 20), added 1 Wildcard Point.

  • Petra – Now boosts both Production and Gold on Desert tiles.

  • Pyramids – New bonuses on River tiles, biome restriction relaxed (not Tundra).

  • Sanchi Stupa – Cost increased (375 → 450).

  • Weiyang Palace – Moved to Citizenship Civic Mastery.


Exploration Age Wonders

  • Borobudur – Effect localized to Quarters in Settlement.

  • Erdene Zuu – Culture reduced (4 → 2), cheaper (550 → 400), broader placement.

  • Forbidden City – Base Culture doubled, Fortification yields adjusted, cost increased.

  • Hale O Keawe – Changed to +1 Culture on Water Buildings.

  • House of Wisdom – Relics granted reduced (3 → 1).

  • Machu Pikchu – Mountain adjacency bonus added, placement expanded.


Modern Age Wonders

  • Boudhanath – Influence yield increased (4 → 6), expanded placement.

  • Brandenburg Gate – New effects: +1 War Support per war, +1 Settlement Limit.

  • Eiffel Tower – Culture & Happiness from Quarters increased (2 → 3).

  • Hermitage – Reworked to flat +5 Culture with Great Works.

  • Muzibu Azaala Mpanga – New Lake bonuses: +4 Culture and Food on Improvements/Districts.

  • Palacio de Bellas Artes – Happiness effect removed, but Great Works Happiness increased (2 → 3) and grants 1 Artifact.

  • Red Fort – Added +4 base Production.


Other Gameplay Improvements

Advisors

  • Tech & Civic trailing warnings disabled at higher difficulties.

  • Wonder competition warning expanded to all Ages.

  • New Codex warning added.

  • More resources carried into Age Transitions.

AI

  • Smarter trade, alliances, peace deals, and city-state integration.

  • AI now aggressively pursues Victory Projects and Wonders.

  • Better naval pathfinding to avoid ship damage.

Age Transition

  • Fixed leader/civ unlock issues with Spain, Mongolia, and Genghis Khan.

Camera

  • Edge-panning added for mouse users.

  • Controller navigation reworked for smoother gameplay.

Diplomacy

  • Fixed War Weariness penalties and War Support calculations.

  • Independent Powers pillage more logically.

Economy

  • Fixed Brihadeeswarar Temple bonuses.

  • Happiness yields preserved after Rural Improvements.

  • Blacksmith moved to Military Training Tech.

Military

  • Numerous fixes to Commander abilities, Focus Fire, Scout exploration, and unit reinforcements.

  • Balanced Overrun, Heroic Assault, and Scorched Earth mechanics.

Religion & Ideology

  • Added Religion and Ideology icons on Leader Ribbon.

  • Icons show Green/Red alignment for easier diplomacy planning.
