Sea of Thieves (SOT) Update 2.8.5.1 Patch Notes

A new Sea of Thieves update 2.8.5.1 is rolling out on Xbox One and PC. According to the official Sea Of Thieves patch notes, the latest SOT update 2.8.5.1 adds gameplay adjustments to reduce ambush frequency for pirates in water or on islands. Apart from this Seas of Thieves patch 2.8.5.1 also includes general stability fixes.

Previously, a big SOT update 2.8 introduced ‘The Legend of Monkey Island,’ a captivating story told through three Tall Tales. Players embark on a journey to free Guybrush from a dream-world in ‘The Quest for Guybrush,’ facing Legendary Trials. Unfortunately, players are still experiencing a number of issues with the game. Today’s SOT game update 2.8.5.1 will address a few of these issues.

Sea Of Thieves 2.8.5.1 Release Notes – September 7, 2023

Gameplay:

  1. Pirates entering the water or setting foot on islands should no longer find themselves set upon by emergent threats so quickly. Lingering in the water and sauntering around islands will still result in an ambush sooner or later, but not at the same frequency as before.
  2. ‘The Quest for Guybrush’: After returning from the Sea of the Damned, pirates who drop treasure overboard will no longer find the items returned to their ship.

Visual and Audio:

  1. The Flaming Jackal Compass now points pirates in the correct direction!

Known Issues: Localisation:

  1. The Mysterious Note for Legends Week has inconsistent localization and will temporarily be presented in English only to most players.
