NetHack Update 3.6.6 Patch Notes – August 20, 2021

NetHack update 3.6.6 is now rolling out for PC (Steam) players. According to the official NetHack patch notes, the latest patch updated the game engine.

Recently, a minor update was released with minor gameplay changes. Unfortunately, many players are still experiencing several issues while playing the game. Today’s NetHack update 3.6.6 is expected to fix a few of these issues.

Check out more details below.

NetHack Patch Notes

The underlying game engine, for NetHack, has been updated to the most recent version of NetHack bringing Vulture back up to date with the most recent underlying NetHack game engine.

NetHack 3.4.3 has been left playable, if there are those of you that prefer the older engine, and of course if you have the Slash’EM DLC then Slash’EM 0.0.7E7F2 is there as well.

All engines, including the newer NetHack 3.6.6 will benefit from several updates to Vulture itself mainly around stability with all known causes of crashes now (hopefully) removed and a thing of the past.

Important notes: In order to make this project easier to maintain in the future, a few file structures have been altered and moved around. If you want to continue playing NetHack 3.4.3 or Slash’EM 0.0.7E7F2 games with your existing bones and/or savegames you will need to move those bones and savegame files into the new location under “Variants” within the Vulture for NetHack game installation folder.

Also, if you have some saves or bones files from the previous NetHack 3.6.0 beta these should, for the most part, be compatible with NetHack 3.6.6 and there’s a good chance you could continue where you left off.
