Fortnite update 24.40 is rolling out on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Switch and PC. According to the official Fortnite 24.40 patch notes, the latest update contains a new rank mode, changes, improvements, and more. In addition, today’s Fortnite version 24.40 also includes stability fixes.
Previously, a major update 23.30 added new features, new LTM modes, new changes, and much more. Unfortunately, players are still facing several issues with the game. Today’s Fortnite patch 24.40 will address a few of these issues.

FORTNITE BATTLE ROYALE RANKED MODE
The Ranked mode in Fortnite Battle Royale consists of several ranks: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion, and Unreal. The ranks from Bronze to Diamond have three sub-ranks, while Elite, Champion, and Unreal have a single rank. Your goal is to climb the ranks from Bronze to Silver, then from Silver to Gold, and continue this progression through Gold, Platinum, and Diamond until you reach the Elite rank.
Once you reach the Elite rank, you’ll have the opportunity to prove yourself against highly skilled players. By defeating them, you can advance to the Champion rank, and ultimately to the prestigious Unreal rank.
HOW DOES RANKING UP WORK?
In the Lobby, if you have “Ranked” set to “On,” your current rank will be displayed on the left side of the screen. Additionally, a progress bar will indicate how close you are to advancing to the next rank or reverting to the previous one.
The amount the progress bar increases or decreases after a match depends on the following factors:
- Your placement in the match
- The number of eliminations you or your team achieved
- Eliminations later in the match carry more weight than eliminations earlier in the match
- The ranks of the players you or your team eliminated are taken into account
Teams are treated as a single unit, meaning all team members gain or lose progress equally based on team eliminations and overall placement calculated at the end of the match.
WHICH MODES SUPPORT RANKED?
In version 24.40, Ranked mode will be available in the following Battle Royale and Zero Build modes:
Battle Royale:
- Solo
- Duos
- Squads
Zero Build:
- Duos
BALANCE CHANGES
With the release of version 24.40, the following balance changes will be implemented:
- Material caps will be reduced from 999 to 500.
- Harvesting rates will be slightly increased.
- Players will drop 50 of each material when they are eliminated.
Furthermore, in a hotfix on May 3 ET, the following balance changes were made:
- Increased the damage of the Lock-On Pistol and Thunder Spears.
- Improved the lock-on speed and fire rate between bursts for the Locked-On Pistol.
- Thunder Spears now explode faster after pulling the fuse.
- The Forecast Reality Augment has been removed from tournaments.
MAJOR BUG FIXES IN V24.40
In version 24.40, the following major bug fixes will be addressed:
- Correcting the issue where some large rocks on the Battle Royale Island provided fewer materials than intended.
- Resolving the problem that prevented players from being healed with Slurp Juice after being down but not out (DBNO).
- Fixing the detachment of Back Blings equipped with the Clone Trooper Outfit.
- Eliminating the static head movement of the Clone Trooper Outfit.
- Resolving the problem that caused some Outfits to appear glossy.
- Addressing the issue where multiple outfits may appear shiny or glossy.
- Fixing the appearance of detached Back Blings when equipped with the Clone Trooper Outfit.
- Resolving the static head movement issue of the Clone Trooper.
Battle Royale
- Fixing the problem where certain large rocks on the Battle Royale Island didn’t provide enough materials.
Mobile
- Correcting the display issue with the scope of the Cobra DMR.
