[Fixed] Overwolf.exe Warzone Issue, Game not Launching or Crashing

Some players are complaining regarding Overwolf.exe in Warzone. The COD Warzone is crashing for some and even fails to start for others with the Overwolf error. What is Overwolf or Overwolf.exe?

Overwolf is a tech framework that allows 3rd party developers to build gaming apps. When Overwolf apps failed to communicate with the games, they may become fully or partially unavailable due to various reasons. In such a scenario, CoD Warzone will show you the Overwolf.exe error.

There could be a few different reasons for that, including:

  • A game patch/update is pending.
  • An issue with the game itself, in which case the apps and highlights in Overwolf will not be able to receive the necessary information that they need in order to work properly
  • Maintenance work on Overwolf’s side.

Overwolf.exe is 100% safe to use and is very popular among gamers all over the world, some antivirus programs have blacklisted it in the past, and using them might prevent Overwolf from launching properly on your PC.

How to fix Overwolf.exe in Warzone?

Windows OS Updates

Overwolf may not launch properly or even crash when Windows is outdated. We highly recommend making sure that all Windows system updates are installed. To check if there are updates available for your system, please click here.

If you have any system updates pending, please install them, restart your system and then try to launch Overwolf again.

Antivirus Software

Try this to fix Overwolf issue in Warzone (PC).

  1. Click on the Windows key + R
  2. Type: “regedit” and click “Yes”
  3. In the file explorer to your left, start opening folders by this path:
  4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows NT -> CurrentVersion -> Image File Execution Options
  5. On the file explorer to your left, look for folders named ‘overwolf.exe’ and ‘overwolflauncher.exe’
  6. If they exist, right-click them and choose “Delete”
  7. Try running Overwolf

.NET Framework

Overwolf is based on .NET Framework 4.5 and later .NET versions.
It’s possible that .NET 4.5 wasn’t installed properly on your PC, in which case Overwolf won’t be able to run due to some corrupted files.

  1. Press the Windows key + R
  2. Type in: appwiz.cpl
  3. Click on “Turn Windows features on or off
  4. Look for the “.NET Framework 4.5 (or higher)” and uncheck the box next to it
  5. Click “OK” and wait
  6. Once it is done close it and restart your computer
  7. Follow steps 1-4 in order to re-check the “.NET Framework 4.5” option
  8. Restart your computer
  9. Try running Overwolf

A future update to Warzone will fix the Overwolf.exe issue on PC.
