How to manually update PS4 system software?

  1. Start by ensuring that your PlayStation 4 is connected to the internet.
  2. On the PS4 home screen, go to the “Settings” menu. You can find it represented by an icon that looks like a toolbox.
  3. In the “Settings” menu, scroll down and select “System Software Update.” It should be the option near the bottom of the list.
  4. Now, choose the “Update Using Internet” option. The system will check for any available updates online.
  5. If an update is found, you’ll see a confirmation message. Select “Next” to proceed.
  6. Read and agree to the terms and conditions presented on the screen.
  7. The download process will start automatically. This might take some time, depending on the size of the update and your internet connection speed.
  8. Once the download is complete, the system will ask if you want to install the update. Select “Yes” to begin the installation.
  9. The installation process will take some time, and your PS4 will restart during the process. Do not turn off the power or remove any cables while the update is being installed.
  10. After the installation is complete, your PS4 will restart again, and you’ll be on the latest firmware version.

Update From PC

  1. Using a PC or Mac, create a folder named “PS4” on a USB drive formatted as FAT32. Inside that folder, create another folder named “UPDATE”.
  2. Download the update file (button below) and save it in the “UPDATE” folder. Save the file as “PS4UPDATE.PUP”.
  3. Plug the USB drive containing the file into your PS4 console.
  4. Start the PS4 console in Safe Mode: press and hold the power button, releasing after the second beep.
  5. Select Safe Mode option 3: Update System Software.
  6. Select Update from USB Storage Device > OK.
