Sea of Thieves Server Status: Is Sea of Thieves Down?

Sea of Thieves servers are down on PC (Steam) and Xbox One. Since the last update, players are experiencing a number of issues when they try to play online. Out of those affected, some are reporting the server issues and the “Searching the seas” issue. You can check the Sea of Thieves server status, maintenance, and downtime details here.

Sea of Thieves Maintenance Time

August 21, 2023 – The Sea of Thieves servers will be undergoing necessary maintenance at 12:30 UTC today. All players will be removed from the game but will be able to immediately log back in.


August 3, 2023 – Attention, pirates! The Sea of Thieves servers will be offline for a small but necessary hotfix at approximately 9am UTC.


May 24, 2023 – Sea of Thieves servers will go offline at 9am UTC for 1 hour.


February 16, 2023 – SOT servers will be offline from approximately 10am UTC.


January 19, 2023 – SOT servers will be offline from approximately 10am UTC.


November 22, 2022 – The Sea of Thieves servers will be offline from 10am UTC.


November 3, 2022 – The Sea of Thieves servers will be offline from approximately 10am UTC today.


September 29, 2022 – The Sea of Thieves servers will be offline from approximately 9am UTC tomorrow.

August 4, 2022 – The Sea of Thieves servers are now offline for essential maintenance ahead of the launch of Season 7. The Sea of Thieves servers will be going offline at approximately 9am UTC.


July 12, 2022SOT servers will be taken offline. Time: 15:50 BST/10:50 EDT/7:50 PDT.

April 21, 2022 – The Sea of Thieves servers will be taken offline in roughly one hour (10am BST) for the start of your next Adventure, ‘The Shrouded Deep’!

We recommend that you check for and install any available console updates. Follow the steps below to check for updates manually.

Checking for Sea of Thieves updates on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S

  1. Press the Home button to open the dashboard menu. Now select Settings from the bottom of the menu, then select All Settings.
  2. Select System, then select Updates. Now select Update Console if the option becomes available. Follow the onscreen steps to complete the update.

Be sure to allow any updates to install completely before beginning your game installation.
