Captain of Industry update 0.5.4 is now available to download on PC, Ps4, PS5, and Xbox one. According to the official Captain of Industry patch notes, the latest update brings rendering improvements resulting in up to 2x FPS boost for large factories. A new animation system using the Vertex Animation Texture (VAT) technique enhances performance, and various optimizations have been made to simulation processes for end-game factories.
Previously, a major Captain of Industry update added new changes, fixes, and gameplay improvements. Unfortunately, players are still experiencing several issues since the release. Today’s Captain of Industry version 0.5.4 will fix a few of these issues.
Check out more details below.
Captain of Industry Patch 0.5.4 Notes – August 23, 2023
Performance Improvements:
- Rendering Optimizations: Significant rendering optimizations have been implemented, resulting in up to a 2x increase in FPS for large factories. The improvements address the challenge of maintaining high frame rates on larger factory setups, which can strain the CPU and GPU.
- New Animation System: A new animation system has been introduced, utilizing the Vertex Animation Texture (VAT) technique. This technique involves generating images or textures that represent vertex positions at different times, allowing for smoother animations. This system efficiently handles animations for various in-game structures.
- Level of Detail (LOD) Support: Buildings now utilize dynamic mesh switching based on their distance from the player’s view. This feature optimizes rendering by using fewer triangles for buildings further away, reducing GPU load during long views.
- Animation and Instanced Rendering: By shifting animation computations to the GPU and using instanced rendering, the performance of structures has been significantly improved. This approach offloads CPU computations to the GPU, leading to up to 4x faster rendering of structures and potentially doubling the FPS in certain scenarios.
Simulation Improvements:
- Simulation Loop Enhancements: Captain Filip discusses improvements in the simulation loop. These changes, part of Update 1, address performance concerns for end-game factories played at higher speeds. The simulation is responsible for tasks like machine updates, product movement, job assignments, and more.
- Memory Jump Reduction: A key optimization involves minimizing memory jumps during simulation. The introduction of a new struct, IoPortData, and an identifier IoPortToken significantly reduces memory jumps, leading to improved simulation performance.
- Machine Optimizations: Machines have been streamlined by consolidating classes and introducing caches. This optimization reduces memory jumps and speeds up the simulation process. Additionally, idle machines’ overhead has been reduced by skipping unnecessary recipe searches.
- Vehicle Jobs Scheduler Enhancement: Improvements to the vehicle jobs scheduler involve caching data and optimizing job pairing. This optimization reduces the time needed to find jobs for multiple vehicles and introduces prioritization based on distance and capacity.
Other Improvements and Bug Fixes:
- Unity Version Update: The game has migrated to the latest Unity version (2022.3 LTS), resulting in reduced crashes and better stability.
- Text Rendering and Font: Text rendering has been enhanced, resulting in sharper fonts. Font size has been increased for languages using complex symbols such as Japanese, Chinese, and Korean to improve readability.
- Blueprint Reordering: Blueprint reordering is now possible using drag-and-drop, and the window size for blueprints has been increased.
- Job Queue Optimization: Small-quantity jobs will no longer skip high-priority jobs in the queue due to insufficient quantity.
- Various Bug Fixes: Several bug fixes address issues such as ground tile remnants, transport pillar placement, missing cargo visualization, UI improvements, and more.
- Camera Field of View Configuration: The camera field of view configuration is now available in the video settings, allowing players to adjust the vertical FOV within a range of 50-70 degrees.
- Game Design and Kickstarter Updates: The development team is focusing on performance improvements, map editor development, and refining game difficulties. Kickstarter backers are assured that merchandise fulfillment is underway despite delays.
