BG3 update 1.002.005 Patch Notes – September 22, 2023

1. Misty Morning Sunshine. Cazador, known for his elusive Mist Form, has met his match in magical sunlight. Now, he can’t shift into that elusive form when bathed in the radiant glow of spells like Daylight. It’s a ray of hope for those facing this formidable foe.

2. Stormheart’s Unrelenting Wrath. Ansur’s Stormheart Nova is nothing short of spectacular, but it used to blast right through ice shields. Not anymore! Now, you can hide behind those icy barriers without fearing the storm’s fury.

3. Grym’s Unexpected Genius. Grym, the enigmatic character in the Adamantine Forge, suddenly got a lot smarter. He was actively avoiding the Crucible, making players scratch their heads. But don’t worry; the developers decided to dial his intelligence back a notch or two, ensuring a more predictable encounter.

4. Double Trouble Divine Smite. Here’s one for the devout adventurers out there. Previously, using Divine Smite at level 4 or higher allowed players to add Divine Smite as a reaction, essentially enabling two Divine Smites in a single attack. The patch has put a stop to this divine double-dipping.

5. Poltergeist Polishing. Poltergeists have received a series of improvements in this update. They are now revealed when attacked or hit with Radiant Spirit Guardians. Moreover, they won’t vanish into invisibility within a character’s See Invisibility aura. In addition, they face a disadvantage on Dexterity Saving Throws in Balanced and Explorer Modes. Their attack range has been reduced, and they’re less inclined to keep their distance in combat, making them easier to confront.

6. Sneak Attack Sensation. For the rogue enthusiasts, there’s good news. The Sneak Attack damage bonus now correctly increases to 6d6 at Level 11. No more missing out on those sweet sneak attack bonuses.

7. Smokepowder Arrow Shenanigans. BG3 update 1.002.005 fixed a sneaky issue where multiple Smokepowder Arrows could be used for free while the Extra Attack feature was active. Now, ammunition management is back on the table.

8. PS5 Controller Color Coordination. PlayStation 5 players, rejoice! The colors on the PS5 controller will now match elemental damage types more closely, adding a touch of immersion to your gaming experience.

9. Performance Improvements. In the Lower City, players can expect improved performance. The update promises more performance enhancements down the line, so stay tuned for smoother gameplay.

10. Artistic Enhancements. Dye colors on armor have received a makeover, making them more intense and visible. This change will only affect newly dyed items, giving your gear a more vibrant appearance.

1. Dye Intensity Upgrade. Your adventurers can now make a bold statement with their choice of attire. Dye colors on armors have been intensified, ensuring that your character’s style shines through. This visual enhancement adds a touch of personalization to your party’s appearance. Please note that it will affect newly dyed items, so get ready to show off your vibrant gear.

2. Piercing Choices for Dragonborns. Dragonborn characters are known for their distinct features, and now they have even more options to express themselves. They can choose from a variety of barbarian piercings, adding a unique flair to their appearance. It’s all about making a statement in the world of Baldur’s Gate.

3. Shadowheart’s Hair Dilemma Solved. Have you ever noticed Shadowheart mysteriously going blonde when equipping a hat? It’s a quirk that many players found amusing, but the developers have put an end to this curious phenomenon. No more unexpected hair color changes for our enigmatic cleric.

4. Reflecting in the Underdark. The world of Underdark can be as mysterious as it is dangerous, and even the smallest details matter. The reflection in the Spectator’s eye has been improved, enhancing the atmospheric depth of this subterranean realm. It’s all about immersing players in the eerie beauty of the Underdark.

5. Tattoos That Stay Put. Face tattoos are a unique form of self-expression for your characters, but they had a tendency to disappear when zooming out. This issue has been resolved, ensuring that your character’s ink remains visible no matter how you view them.

6. Character Dynamics and Interactions. In the vast world of Baldur’s Gate 3, character interactions are at the heart of the adventure. This update addresses several issues and improvements in this department:

  • Companions temporarily leaving the party, like being sent to prison, would sometimes forget their partnership history, leading to awkward and cold interactions. This has been fixed to maintain consistent character dynamics.
  • Trading with Cazador while he begged for mercy was a peculiar bug that is no longer an issue.
  • Astarion’s romance flow has been improved, ensuring a smoother experience for those who choose to spend a night with him.
  • Dialogue options that showed up only once when talking to Withers have been rectified for a more comprehensive conversation.
  • A critical blocker where you couldn’t retrieve Orin’s Slayer form Netherstone after knocking it into a chasm has been resolved, ensuring the story can progress smoothly.
  • Tieflings leaving the Emerald Grove now have a proper journal step, and the Forging of the Heart quest will close if Dammon is no longer available in the region.
  • Karlach’s journal no longer mistakenly states that you arrived in the Shadow-Cursed Lands when you reach the Rosymorn Monastery Trail.
  • Wyll now consistently acknowledges Karlach when she approaches him for the first time.
  • A bug that prevented the Shadowheart swimming scene from playing for some players has been fixed, ensuring you don’t miss out on this memorable moment.
  • The Narrator has been tuned in to your character’s true nature, no longer thinking you’re a mind flayer when you’re not.
  • Companions talking about killing Gortash after meeting Orin, even if Gortash is already dead, is now a thing of the past.
  • Astarion has been reworked to discuss relevant topics, avoiding unnecessary or outdated conversations.

7. Nere and Minthara’s Interaction Overhaul. The interactions between Nere and Minthara have undergone a significant overhaul. The ‘Travel to Moonrise Towers’ quest has been adjusted, and Nere now has his own lyre, which can be used to call for the drider through the Shadow-Cursed Lands, similar to Minthara’s lyre. Their interactions have been polished for a more engaging experience.

8. Enhanced Romantic Moments. Romantic moments are a crucial aspect of character development in BG3. This update addresses various issues in romantic scenes, ensuring they play out as intended. No more awkward glitches or floating characters during these intimate encounters.

1. Breaking Sanctuaries. Certain spells have gained new power, and they now correctly break the Sanctuary condition. When Call Lightning, Evard’s Black Tentacles, Polymorph, Hunger of Hadar, Fear, Ice Storm, Flesh to Stone, Divine Intervention, Hypnotic Pattern, Slow, Stinking Cloud, Banishment, and Glyph of Warding are cast, they will no longer allow foes to find sanctuary.

2. Streamlined Level-Up. Managing multiple characters can be a bit of a hassle, especially when it comes to leveling up. But fear not! Level Up will now queue all characters who can be leveled up, saving you the trouble of clicking on each one individually. It’s a small change that makes a big difference in terms of convenience.

3. Loot Management. Ever noticed that some corpses never showed the ‘(empty)’ tag after looting them? Well, that minor issue has been fixed, ensuring that you can keep track of what you’ve already looted and what’s still worth checking.

4. Reacting While Disguised. Previously, some reactions couldn’t be used while in disguise, limiting your tactical options. But with this update, you’ll have the freedom to use reactions even when in disguise, allowing for more strategic gameplay.

5. Unlocking Woe. Cazador’s staff, Woe, now correctly unlocks the Blight spell when equipped. This ensures that your arcane spellcasters can harness its power as intended.

6. Magic Item Preservation. Several magic items and Volo’s Ersatz Eye used to lose their power after your character was killed and then revived. This issue has been resolved, ensuring that your magical equipment remains potent even after a setback.

7. Critical Spell Sniper Fix. The Spell Sniper feat was found to have issues with attack spells, but not anymore. It will now correctly reduce the Critical Hit threshold by 1, making it a more reliable choice for spellcasters.

8. Everburning Flames. The Everburn Blade, known for its fiery properties, will now correctly set explosive surfaces and objects alight when struck. A fiery sword should ignite more than just your enemies!

9. Concentration and Misty Escape. The Misty Escape feat had a tendency to break concentration, disrupting spellcasters’ flow. However, that’s no longer the case. Concentration remains intact when you employ Misty Escape, allowing for more seamless spellcasting.

10. Legal Shop Sign Reading. Reading shop signs is no longer considered a criminal activity. Engage with the local merchants and gather information without fearing the law.

11. Default Reaction Setting. The Cutting Words reaction is now set to Ask by default. It’s a small but significant adjustment that streamlines your choices during interactions.

12. No More Loot-Stealing Summons. Summoned zombies and skeletons were sometimes a little too enthusiastic about looting and disappearing with valuable items. This behavior has been corrected, ensuring that your summoned undead don’t run off with your hard-earned loot.

13. Nimblefinger Glove Correction. The Nimblefinger Gloves will now correctly apply their Dexterity bonus to gnomes, halflings, and dwarves, ensuring that these characters benefit from their agility.

14. Controller Object Selection. For players using controllers, the game now handles object selection more efficiently. This ensures a smoother and more responsive experience when navigating the world.

15. Sovereign Spaw’s Etiquette Lesson. Sovereign Spaw will no longer attempt to resurrect hirelings with Animating Spores. It seems he’s learned that some things are better left untouched.
