Apex Legends Update 2.87 Patch Notes (Apex 2.87) for PS4

Respawn has released a new Apex Legends update 2.87 for PS4, PC, and Xbox One. According to the official Apex 2.87 patch notes, Arenas: Duels brings intense 1v1 action with randomized gear and no abilities until July 15. Climb the leaderboard in this stripped-down test of skill. Collect points in the Future Icons Event to unlock cosmetics including Legendary skins and Wattson’s Prestige skin via exclusive event packs. Today’s Apex Legends version 2.87 also includes balancing changes and bug fixes.

    • Cooldown reduced to 4s (was 15s)
    • Fences now slow sliding and jumping enemies, and consume cooldowns on Ash’s dash and Sparrow’s double jump
    • Fences placed across doors will electrify the doors
      • Stuns enemies when they open an electrified door or kicks it in
      • Electrification ends if the fence is obstructed or the fence is removed, and restarts when the fence is active again
    • Removed doors exploding when opened into the line of a fence
  • Upgrades: Level 2
    • Falling Stars: integrated into base kit
    • NEW Help is Here: gain all support perks (access Support Bins, faster revives with health regen, gain MRB with Banners)

MODES

LTM: Arenas: Duels without abilities (June 24-July 15, 2025)
  • Fight 1v1: win as many 1v1 Duels as you can in the time given
  • Even Duels: dueling players are assigned matching Legends and weapons for even ground
  • Leaderboard: tracks players’ performance over the course of the match
  • No abilities: abilities will be turned off for the first part of the event, allowing players to focus on gun skills and movement
  • Three maps: Encore, Habitat, and Party Crasher available at launch with a variety of spawn points

  • Abilities: Legends abilities are turned on for a new exciting strategic layer

RANKED

  • Ranked Tier Display: now shows the tier distribution per squad instead of per individual player. Ranked matchmaking for premade squads is done based on the highest RP value in the squad. This change will group all squad members, premade or otherwise, to show the entire squad based on the highest Rank Tier in that squad.
  • Ladder Champion Dive Trail: granted to all players that completed the Ladder Champion placement Challenge in Split 1 and will be accessible for all of Split 2. If you wish to retain access to the Dive Trail, you must complete the same Challenge in this current split.

BUG FIXES

  • Audio: walking while holding a Bocek will once again produce third-person footstep audio
  • Arrows
    • Should once again despawn properly
    • Those shot into the Arena’s barrier wall will no longer stay there once the round started
  • Arsenals: will no longer steal ammo out of your inventory
  • Firing Range
    • Artemis should no longer spam spawn meow
    • Arrows can no longer be picked-up across Firing Range instances
  • PC: Full shader compiles should no longer occur every time the game loads, especially after a Windows update
  • Tac no longer occasionally used with some Legends when holding Akimbo weapons while activating Ult
  • “Tracked and Recommended” tab once again shows tracked challenges in match summary
  • Tracked challenges lobby widget now shows the further progressed challenge of the two

LEGENDS

  • Alter
    • Fixed issue where any legend would cancel the void nexus activation if you tried to travel to it while holding an ultimate in your hands.
    • Fixed issue where Lifeline would cancel the void nexus activation if she did a hard fall impact.
    • Fixed enemy and dummy highlighting in the void and from Alter’s tactical not working when friendly fire was enabled in the firing range.
    • Fixed issue where Alter’s teammate would not get an MRB when crafting banners if Alter had selected the “Friends” upgrade, but was dead.
  • Ash: Greedy Snare now plants correctly after the first hit
  • Mirage: will now consistently exit cloak when hit while healing
  • Sparrow: Stinger Bolt no longer instantly break Revenant’s Shadow Shroud

QUALITY OF LIFE

  • Arsenals: increased the interact size of the consoles, making it less likely that you unintentionally grab a new weapon while enhancing your current weapon
  • Battle Pass gifting has returned
  • Fixed misprediction hitches when taking ring damage or when ending heals
  • Gibraltar’s arm shield and Gun Shield Generators are now accounted for in the Death Recap
  • Rampart can now interact with more things while holding Sheila
  • Re-wrote the ‘hold to use’ system to make it more accurate and players should swap weapons on accident less often as a result
  • Thermite Grenade Visual Updates
    • Added detonation FX
    • Added new elements to update visuals: updated spark materials, hotter bottom to see better the thermite AOE, all assets dissolve faster
    • Reduced number of particles
    • Reduction in overdraw
    • Updated sparks to enhance the feel

AUDIO

  • De-prioritized friendly zip-lines so enemies will always be played
  • De-prioritized non-threatening enemy footsteps (bodyfall and downed) to ensure potential threats are always played
  • Experimenting with lowered volume/inaudible friendly footsteps when under significant threat—let us know if this is helpful!
  • Reduced volume of Hovertanks in Kings Canyon

GRAPHICS

  • PC
    • Improved GPU uploading performance, which can increase performance stability and reduce missing models or textures for some players
    • Launch argument -no_render_on_input_thread has been made the default for players with 8 or more cores on their CPU. This improves performance stability and input latency, especially when paired with high-polling rate mice or controllers. It can still be enabled manually for players with fewer CPU cores, and it can be disabled with -render_on_input_thread.
    • Reduced CPU overhead of multithreading on machines with many CPU cores

The following changes were added previously.

Legend Buffs

  • Ash and Ballistic receive significant upgrades to improve their combat effectiveness.

Ash:

  • Arc Snare: Improved tether mechanics for better target snagging.
  • Phase Breach: Increased range, faster travel, and better endpoint detection.
  • New Passive – Predator’s Pursuit: Grants a short-range dash for closing gaps or evading enemies.

Ballistic:

  • Sling: Now carries crate weapons with infinite ammo during Ult.
  • Whistler: Gains an extra charge and improved overheat mechanics.
  • Tempest (Ult): Now grants a speed boost to the squad.

Assault Class Perks

  • Combat Reserve: Carry extra ammo, two grenade-only slots, and retain access to Red Extended Supply Bins.
  • Stowed Reload: Weapons reload automatically after 2 seconds when stowed.
  • Battle Surge: Breaking an enemy’s shield grants a speed boost, fast reloads, and highlights the target.

Weapon Buffs

  • Damage increases across multiple weapon categories (ARs, LMGs, Marksman, Pistols, SMGs, Shotguns, Snipers).
  • Shotguns: Base damage increased, but headshot damage removed (except Mozambique and Peacekeeper).
  • Snipers: Headshot damage buffed, limb damage reduced to emphasize precision.

Helmet and Armor Changes

  • Low-tier Helmets (White, Blue, Purple): Removed from loot pool.
  • Gold Helmet: Reworked into Gold Armor Upgrade Helmet, doubling healing output and setting armor to 100.
  • Mythic Armor Upgrade Helmet: Introduces Red tier armor (125 shields), available in late-game Care Packages.

Muzzle Flash Adjustments

  • Reduced visual noise and particle effects for clearer gunfights.
  • Muzzle flashes are smaller, and lingering effects like smoke and sparks are cleaned up.

Gameplay Updates

  • New Arsenals: Stations provide weapons, ammo, and upgrades at fixed POIs.
  • Healing: Cells and Syringes now stack to 6, with faster use times.
  • Knocked Down State: Increased crawl speed.
  • POI Names on Drop: Added loot tier and Arsenal info during initial drop.

Weapon and Attachment Changes

  • Hop Ups: Hammerpoints removed.
  • Gold Magazines: Reload time while stowed reduced to 2 seconds.
  • Optics: 1x Holo removed from loot pool.
  • Replicator: Reduced ammo output to 1 stack per weapon.

Legend Updates

  • Ash: Improved Arc Snare and Phase Breach, new dash passive.
  • Ballistic: Sling upgrades integrated into base kit, Ult grants squad speed boost.
  • Crypto: EMP now destroys Gibraltar’s Dome of Protection.
  • Loba: Ult charge reverted to starting at 50%.
  • Maggie: Wrecking Ball now destroys Gibraltar’s Dome and Newcastle’s Mobile Shield.

Map and Mode Updates

  • Pubs: Kings Canyon, Olympus, Broken Moon.
  • Ranked: Kings Canyon, Olympus, Storm Point.
  • Mixtape: New modes and maps from February 11 to March 24, 2025.

Ranked Changes

  • New Road to Ranked Challenges: Introduced to ensure players are prepared for Ranked matches.
  • Level 20 Requirement: Retained, but additional challenges must be completed.

System Updates

  • Bot Royale Tutorial: Added for new players, with prompts for loot, health, and ammo.
  • Weapon Mastery: Trials simplified, focusing on damage and eliminations.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed issues with Mythic Bins, firing range spawns, and Legend abilities.
  • Resolved crashes and animation bugs for Lifeline, Mirage, Revenant, and others.

Quality of Life

  • Audio: Added mono output for hearing-impaired players, reduced friendly footstep volume.
  • Graphics: Improved CPU rendering performance on consoles and PCs.
  • UI: Added Account Level details and adjusted Match Summary stats.

Weapon-Specific Buffs

  • ARs: Damage increases for Havoc, Hemlok, Nemesis, R-301, and Flatline.
  • LMGs: Damage buffs for Devotion, L-STAR, Spitfire, and Rampage.
  • Marksman: Damage and projectile size increases for 30-30 Repeater, Bocek, G7 Scout, and Triple Take.
  • Pistols: Damage buffs for P2020, RE-45, and Wingman.
  • SMGs: Damage increases for Alternator, C.A.R., Prowler, and Volt.
  • Shotguns: Damage per pellet increased for EVA-8, Mastiff, Mozambique, and Peacekeeper.
  • Snipers: Headshot damage buffs for Charge Rifle, Kraber, Longbow, and Sentinel.

Previously, Apex Legends update 2.66 added a new Limited-Time Mode (LTM), Knockout, along with 36 event-themed items, including a Mythic melee item. Unfortunately, since the last Apex patch 2.67, players are still experiencing a number of issues with the game. Today’s Apex Legends patch 2.77 will fix a few of these issues.
