Apex Legends Update 2.23 Patch Notes

Respawn has released a new Apex Legends update 2.23 on PS4, PS5, PC, and Xbox. According to the official Apex Legends 2.23 patch notes, the latest update adds new legends and a long list of improvements. Apart from this, today’s Apex Legends version 2.23 also includes various tweaks and fixes.

Previously, a major Apex 2.14 update added Spellbound limited-time mode. Unfortunately, players are still experiencing a number of issues with the game. Today’s Apex Legends version 2.23 will fix a few of these issues.

What is new in Apex Legends 2.23 Update Today?

NEW LEGEND: BALLISTIC

  • The Thunderdome Games: Before the Apex Games, a brutal competition known as the Thunderdome Games took place.
  • Dominant Siblings: Sok Leng and Kit Siang Phua, sibling fighters, were powerful contenders in the Thunderdome Games.
  • August Brinkman: August Brinkman, who later became Sok Leng’s husband, joined the Thunderdome Games.
  • Tragic Incident: Kit Siang’s death occurred due to August’s selfish playstyle, causing him to retreat from the Games and abandon Sok Leng and their son, Nate.
  • Decades of Reclusion: August lived as a recluse for many years after the incident.
  • Nate’s Decision: Nate decides to follow his family’s legacy and join the Apex Games.
  • August’s Return: August strikes a deal to reenter the Games in his son’s place.

BALLISTIC’S ABILITIES

Passive: Sling

  • Third Weapon Storage: Ballistic can store a third weapon in the sling.
  • Accessible Inventory: The sling weapon can be accessed through the inventory or the Character Utility Action Button.
  • Attachment Limitation: The sling weapon cannot accept attachments.

Tactical: Whistler

  • Heat-Inducing Projectile: Ballistic’s tactical ability involves shooting a projectile that heats up an enemy’s gun when they shoot.
  • Overheating Damage: The heated gun will eventually cause damage to the enemy.
  • Lock-On Feature: Holding the Tactical button allows for a lock-on targeting system.

Ultimate: Tempest

  • Team Support: Ballistic’s ultimate ability benefits nearby teammates.
  • Reload and Movement Speed Boost: Teammates receive faster reload speeds and increased movement speed while the ultimate is active.
  • Infinite Ammo: Teammates equipped with the sling weapon have infinite ammo during the ultimate.
  • Sling Upgrade: The sling weapon is upgraded to a gold-tier weapon during the ultimate.

WORLD’S EDGE MAP UPDATE

ARSENAL SEASON MAP ROTATION

  • Available Maps: The Battle Royale mode will include the following maps for public matchmaking:
    • World’s Edge
    • Olympus
    • Kings Canyon

RANKED UPDATE

  • Matchmaking Changes: New matchmaking based on hidden skill rating, with skill adjustments for premade group sizes to account for competitive advantages.
  • Scoring System: The new scoring system places greater emphasis on winning the battle royale.
  • Bonus System: Conditional rewards for wins and compensations for losses are introduced.
  • Seasonal Reset: No more split reset, with a full seasonal reset beginning with 10 provisional games.
  • Account Level Requirement: Ranked mode now requires an account level of 50 to play.

WEAPON MASTERY

  • Introducing Weapon Mastery as a long-term progression system.
  • Incentivizes learning about all weapons’ strengths and characteristics.
  • All players start with every weapon at level 1.
  • Weapon levels increase by using them in any game mode.
  • Weapon XP generated through having a weapon, dealing damage, securing kills, and fighting with style.
  • Weapon-specific trials unlock every 20 levels, rewarding skill and completion.
  • Fully “master” a weapon at level 100 and complete all five trials for final rewards.
  • Earn weapon-specific badges, lifetime performance trackers, legendary weapon mastery banner frames, and a Legendary Weapon Apex Pack for each weapon.

NEW SURVIVAL SLOT ITEM: EVAC TOWER

  • The Evac Tower is a portable Jump Tower.
  • Offers a quick escape or sets up a deadly assault.
  • Be cautious, as players can destroy the Evac Tower.

PING SYSTEM UPDATES

  • Updated to better serve the current state of the game.
  • Removed some less-used pings from the default Ping Wheel.
  • Added new pings, including “Avoid Area,” “Enemy Audio,” and “Regroup.”
  • Quality of life improvements to pinging in-game.
  • Expanded options for pinging when Downed or in the Dropship.
  • Improved Pinging from the Map behaviors, allowing accurate waypoints and callouts for in-game objects

Crate Rotation

  • L-Star EMG enters the crate

    • Increased chances of gold loot

    • Removed small healing items, Mobile Respawn Beacon, White Armor, White Backpack
    • Adjusted Large Healing and Heatshield spawns to allow for more desirable loot spawns
    • Removed gold weapons from purple tier Cargo Bots but increased spawn chance in gold tier

WEAPONS

L-Star EMG [Crate]

  • Added Disruptor Rounds: 60% damage increase against shields
  • Base Damage Reduced to 16 (was 17)
  • Projectiles now have passthrough: 60% damage retained
  • Projectile growth increased
  • Improved recoil pattern
  • Removed barrel
  • Ammo Stockpile: 324
  • Reduced VFX brightness when hitting unarmored targets

30-30 Repeater

  • Projectile size increased when fully charged

Triple Take

  • Projectile size increased
  • Improved hipfire spread
  • Tightened bullet pattern when fully choked
  • Ammo per shot reduced to 1 (was 3)
  • Magazines sizes adjusted to match the new ammo costs
    • Purple Mag: Increased to 10 shots (was 9)

R-99 SMG

  • Removed 1 bullet from base and all magazines
    • No Magazine reduced to 19 (was 20)
    • White Magazine reduced to 21 (was 22)
    • Blue Magazine reduced to 24 (was 25)
    • Purple & Gold magazine reduced to 27 (was 28)

Charge Rifle

  • Reduced shots per magazine to 3 (was 4)
  • Reduced spawn rate

LEGENDS

Catalyst

  • Dark Veil
    • Scan Highlights & Diamonds are no longer visible through the Dark Veil

Mirage

  • Class changed from Skirmisher to Support

Ash

  • Now gets slowed to weapon sprint speed instead of weapon walk speed when targeting with her tac

Assault Class

  • Smart loot gains have been adjusted to reduce skipping an upgrade tier
    • It will now be less likely to jump from White to Purple or Blue to Gold
  • Optics are now given based on team rather than just Assault Legend who opens them
  • Added special drop rate for Gold Optics

Skirmisher Class

  • Care packages are now automatically pinged for the team on reveal.
    • This includes empty Care Packages that have already been looted by another team

Support Class

  • Support Bins will now guarantee at least one Battery in one of the Secret Compartment slots
  • Support Bins will now award MRBs if your ally is dead, even if you don’t have their banner card.
  • Legend Banners can now be crafted by ANY player who has a Support Class Legend in their Squad

MIXTAPE

  • New Podium screens for Gun Run and Control
  • Display a message in the Kill Feed if Leaver Penalties are disabled for the match due to an unfair match
  • Control and Gun Run will indicate the team’s MVPs on the intro podium
  • Control and TDM have updated loadouts (Crate Weapon changes and updates based on weapon meta/pick rates/kill rates)
  • Gun Run and TDM now have XP Bonuses for Match Completion and Match Completion after Join in Progress

Control

  • Map rotation: Barometer is out, Olympus: Hammond Labs is in
  • Weapon Evo Change: No longer Evo weapons automatically when a new Rating Tier is reached. Players now reach the new tier and their weapon will Evo when the player holsters and then unholsters their weapon in any form (reload, weapon switch, manual holster, rides a zipline, performs a skydive, etc)

Gun Run

  • Weapon Track update for new crate weapons.
  • Added an additional XP bonus on the last weapon knife kill

Team Deathmatch

  • Map rotation: Skulltown is out, Phase Runner is in

BUG FIXES

  • Prowler: fixed ADS while crouching
  • IMC Armories: fixed spectres taking too much damage from arc stars
  • Fixed Duos showing NBR challenges instead of BR challenges
  • Fixed comms wheel not being usable when a game is over
  • Fixed players glitching inside of loot bins
  • Fixed spectators not receiving audio queues for all types of launch pads/jump pads
  • Fixed flickering of banners during victory and end of match screens
  • Scoreboard is saved when a game is finished now, not post-podium sequence
  • Lifetime Stats numbers no longer overlap for more than 7 digits

LEGENDS

  • Ash:
    • Steps are no longer louder if heirloom is equipped
    • Fixed UI loop when crouch inspect is canceled early
    • Ultimate will now persist for the entire duration even if Ash dies while it is active and while players are still traveling through it
  • Bloodhound: White Ravens already in flight can no longer be scanned for free Tacticals and Ult charge
  • Caustic: Fixed traps destroying when placed near closed doors that are then opened
  • Crypto:
    • Drone can no longer be accessed after being knocked
    • Drone no longer occasionally teleports behind a wall after you throw it
    • Fixed drone sometimes spawning in the middle of the world when thrown into a wall
  • Loba:
    • Fixed visibility issue with Black Market when Bangalore’s smoke is behind
    • Amount head peeks over cover while crouching adjusted to match other Legends
  • Mad Maggie: Improved reliability when hitting objects that the ball will damage or destroy
  • Octane:Removed the double jump hint from the Launch Pad in cases where it would incorrectly show as an option (e.g. after a Pathfinder grapple)
  • Rampart: multiple cover walls can no longer be placed in the same spot on a Trident
  • Seer: Dummies in the firing range will now have the same footstep behavior as other players when moving inside of Seer’s Ultimate instead of behaving like other AI (Prowlers, Spiders)
  • Valkyrie:Ultimate cooldown no longer set to 75% after being canceled while in Death Totem protection
  • Wraith:
    • Fixed ultimate being usable while ziplining
    • Mythic finisher “Whiplash” no longer pushes players outside of play area

MODES

  • Mixtape
    • Fixed shields dropped by killed enemies being empty
    • Fixed players leaving a match will no longer try to join the same match if its join-in-progress window is still active
  • Team Deathmatch
    • Fixed grenades not dropping on player death
    • Fixed Estates map image displaying the night variant of the map in the Lobby
  • Control
    • Fixed Custom Match Observer issue where it was difficult to close the Map Screen if an Observer had it opened before players spawned in the match
    • Fixed teammates death icon not appearing on the map if the map wasn’t open when the teammate died
    • Fixed ordnance not auto-equipping to the ordnance slot if the player spawned out of bounds
    • Fixed reserve ammo counter not displaying when switching weapons from Rampart or Vantage’s ultimate ability

QUALITY OF LIFE UPDATES

  • Removed Auto-Taunt Prompt on Enemy Killed
  • Can now ride ziplines while playing the banner pickup animation
  • Bullet impact VFX on snow reduced

LIVEAPI IMPROVEMENTS AND DOCUMENTATION

This season will have some updates to the LiveAPI based on player and developer feedback. These include improvements to existing functionality and messages, new events, and extensive additions to documentation including some examples in Python.

  • Support for Secure WebSockets (WSS) server connections
    • Configurable SSL verification, to allow self-signed certificates
  • Request validation through pre-shared key mechanism that can be specified through `cl_liveapi_requests_psk`
  • Newly added game event broadcast delay that affects only real-time WebSocket connections, configurable through `cl_liveapi_ws_event_delay`
  • Additional documentation and snippets added to events.proto file
    • Includes sample values, code snippets in Python and expected API behavior
  • Change for API request acknowledgements not behaving as intended
    • Introduction of the RequestStatus message for more detailed explanations
  • Fix for 4KB message payload truncation seen mostly when using JSON data format
  • Fix for PlayerRevive event where the revived player field was incorrectly typed as a string instead of a Player message
  • New WarpGateUsed and ObserverAnnotation events
  • Downgrade of most uint64 fields to uint32 to ensure serialization as numbers and not strings in JSON
    • All timestamp fields remain as uint64. Developers should take note when using JSON data format instead of Protobuf.
  • Added game changes and fixes.

The following changes were added previously

NEW LIMITED-TIME MODE: HEATWAVE

HEATWAVE is a new limited-time mode that turns up the heat on the Apex Games. All the usual rules of Trio’s apply, but you’ll want to look out for Heatwaves that periodically happen throughout the match. When the heats on, you’ll need to avoid taking damage from the sun by taking cover indoors or under objects. If you’re caught out in the open, only sliding cools you down if you want to avoid Heatwave damage on the move. Lastly, Heatshields have increased in size and protect you in a large area from the sun for those moments when you’re caught outdoors and need to beat the heat quickly. Take care when using Heatshields though, they will be destroyed quickly when deployed outside the Ring.

Keep an eye out for Care Packages. Perhaps there lies another way to mitigate the effects of the sun and look cool while doing it. But you’ll need to jump into the mode on March 28th to find out more.

SUN SQUAD COLLECTION EVENT ITEMS

Unlock 24 explosive limited-time cosmetics, with Legendary skins for Ash, Mirage, Fuse, and more!

All 24 items will be available in exchange for Apex Coins or Crafting Metals and in Sun Squad Collection Event Apex Packs for the entire duration of the event.

Ash – Arc Snare

  • Cooldown decreased from 25s to 20s
  • Travel speed increased from 700 to 1200
  • Tether activation delay and snare grow time decreased by about 50% (The Arc Snare will more reliably hit intended targets)

 

QUALITY OF LIFE

  • Hide in-world item UI’s when aiming down the sight
  • Hide in-world crafting UI’s in the center of the screen when aiming down the sight

 

BUG FIXES

  • [Perks] Extended Supply Bins will more reliably give survival items in some cases when they are needed.
  • [Perks] Weapon Supply Bins will more reliably give attachments to teammates in specific edge cases.
  • [Perks] Both Weapon and Extended Supply Bins no longer spawn in close proximity to Bins of the same type.
  • Fixed a bug where re-rolling Daily Challenges would not produce the intended result of providing a non-mode dependent challenge.
  • Fixed issue with players experiencing a loud start-up noise when starting a Team Deathmatch game with reactive weapon skin equipped.
  • [Seer] Fixed bug where Seer could always see enemies with his passive since the UI updates to the minimap.
  • [Octane] Fixed the bug where players could not cycle their weapons when using the Stim tactical while on a zipline.
  • [Pathfinder ] fix for cases when landing onto a Jump Pad after using any length grappling hook will cause it to go extended cooldown.
  • Fix for cases where players could not reload their gun when standing close to Wattson’s Pylon and aiming at it.
  • [Xbox Series X Only] Fixed a bug with chat messages where the first message would not be received by the other party member who is on Xbox.
  • Reduced the smoke VFX for Peacekeeper’s “Frostbite” reactive skin for better visibility in low-light areas.
  • [DX12] Fixed bug where the player’s crosshairs would be disabled when Anti-Aliasing is set to ‘None’ and Aspect Ratio is not native.
  • [DX12] Game no longer letterboxes when the aspect ratio is greater than 16:0 (in DX12, windowed)
  • Fix for cases where the minimap would show a completely different location for Crypto when using the drone.
  • Fixed an issue where players getting UI Images error when playing Olympus.

HARDCORE ROYALE

It’s time to bring your A-Game to the ultimate test of the Apex Games. Hardcore Royale is much like Trios, but with some fun changes that will make information sharing amongst your squad critical. Make sure to count your shots, and always keep the Ring in mind. Let’s break down what to expect when you drop.

Armor is restricted to white armor only, and can’t be upgraded through dealing damage, crafting, or looting. While this makes it easier to take down your enemies, keep in mind you’ll be just as vulnerable. Helmets have also been removed making headshots more lethal/rewarding. Pick your fights carefully, Legend. Or it could all be over in the blink of an eye. Additional gameplay changes for Hardcore Royale are listed below.

Hardcore Royale Changes:

  • Limited HUD
  • White Armor Only
  • No Helmets
  • Armor doesn’t spawn in Deathboxes (No Armor Swapping)
  • Ring starts at max Damage

Like Ranked, Hardcore Royale will be LIMITED to Accounts Level 20 and above.

Bug Fixes
